Sculp­ture Park

The cur­rent own­ers recently estab­lished ‘Scape Sculp­ture Park in the grounds of the prop­erty - an ‘out­door gallery’ - and the only such estab­lish­ment in the lower half of the North Island. ‘Scape has fea­tured as a pop­u­lar des­ti­na­tion on the Kapiti Arts Trail over recent years and orig­i­nal plans made for fur­ther exhi­bi­tions and sym­po­siums await full imple­men­ta­tion. In the mean­time ‘Scape is open to prospec­tive sculp­ture pur­chasers by appoint­ment. Although this exer­cise has been suc­cess­ful to date, a new owner may or may not wish to con­tinue with this enter­prise. In the lat­ter cir­cum­stance, the cur­rent own­ers would remove the fifty plus large sculp­tures cur­rently installed, prior to set­tle­ment. In the for­mer cir­cum­stance, the cur­rent own­ers would pro­vide the new own­ers with the infor­ma­tion needed to expe­dite the pos­si­ble con­tin­u­a­tion of ‘Scape.

Loca­tion

This lifestyle prop­erty is located in a beau­ti­ful rural loca­tion, close enough to shops and schools but far enough to be com­pletely removed from traf­fic, air­ports and express­ways. There are few prop­er­ties with such spec­tac­u­lar river frontage to the Otaki Gorge. The prop­erty slopes down to the river with the house itself sit­u­ated, fac­ing north-​west, on a sun-​drenched plateau, pro­tected from behind by the bush-​clad foothills of the Tararuas. The sus­pen­sion bridge which has opened up this area was built in the 1890s when some bush areas were cleared. Set­tlers devel­oped the land over the next two decades and his­toric remains of the orig­i­nal old sawmill have been pre­served for pos­ter­ity. Now the gorge is a des­ti­na­tion for tram­pers and those want­ing to walk, kayak or camp in nat­ural sur­round­ings. Otaki Gorge Road runs a fur­ther eight kilo­me­tres into the hills before end­ing where the twin rivers join and emerge from the hills, cre­at­ing a beau­ti­ful river­side camp­ing ground and pic­nic area.

The Trans­mis­sion Gully Motor­way and the Kapiti Express­way both cur­rently under con­struc­tion are now open­ing up the whole of the Kapiti Coast to the cap­i­tal city. Com­mut­ing times to Welling­ton are being sig­nif­i­cantly reduced, access to not just air­ports but also to a greater range of edu­ca­tional facil­i­ties is being enhanced and as a result Kapiti land and prop­erty val­ues are pre­dicted to increase sig­nif­i­cantly over the next decade. This loca­tion is one of the Welling­ton region’s best kept secrets and presents as an excel­lent oppor­tu­nity for investment.
