Lifestyle Living

This freehold lifestyle property is idyllically situated on the banks of the Otaki river and offers a wonderful lifestyle to prospective buyers as an expansive and very liveable family home - secluded and private but only 10 minutes from Otaki township, now about 20 minutes from Paraparaumu and currently just over an hour from Wellington city - predicted to reduce to about 40 minutes when the Transmission Gully roading project is completed in April 2020. Horse grazing is available on-site. The property is only a few minutes drive to highly regarded Decile 9 Te Horo School which takes students from 5 years old to 12 years old. A school bus picks up and drops off daily in this area. There are several secondary schools available within a 30 minute drive and Victoria University is one hour away.

Sculpture Park

The current owners recently established ‘Scape Sculpture Park in the grounds of the property - an ‘outdoor gallery’ - and the only such establishment in the lower half of the North Island. ‘Scape has featured as a popular destination on the Kapiti Arts Trail over recent years and original plans made for further exhibitions and symposiums await full implementation. In the meantime ‘Scape is open to prospective sculpture purchasers by appointment. Although this exercise has been successful to date, a new owner may or may not wish to continue with this enterprise. In the latter circumstance, the current owners would remove the fifty plus large sculptures currently installed, prior to settlement. In the former circumstance, the current owners would provide the new owners with the information needed to expedite the possible continuation of ‘Scape.

This lifestyle property is located in a beautiful rural location, close enough to shops and schools but far enough to be completely removed from traffic, airports and expressways. There are few properties with such spectacular river frontage to the Otaki Gorge. The property slopes down to the river with the house itself situated, facing north-west, on a sun-drenched plateau, protected from behind by the bush-clad foothills of the Tararuas. The suspension bridge which has opened up this area was built in the 1890s when some bush areas were cleared. Settlers developed the land over the next two decades and historic remains of the original old sawmill have been preserved for posterity. Now the gorge is a destination for trampers and those wanting to walk, kayak or camp in natural surroundings. Otaki Gorge Road runs a further eight kilometres into the hills before ending where the twin rivers join and emerge from the hills, creating a beautiful riverside camping ground and picnic area.

The Transmission Gully Motorway and the Kapiti Expressway both currently under construction are now opening up the whole of the Kapiti Coast to the capital city. Commuting times to Wellington are being significantly reduced, access to not just airports but also to a greater range of educational facilities is being enhanced and as a result Kapiti land and property values are predicted to increase significantly over the next decade. This location is one of the Wellington region’s best kept secrets and presents as an excellent opportunity for investment.
